- Your teeth are not perfectly white. The enamel, the visible part of your teeth is translucent, and it encases a yellowish part called the dentine. So the yellowish part underneath shows through the translucent part, giving the teeth its unique color.
- The enamel has pores, and can absorb into those pores stains from food, wine, coffee, dark berries, and smoking. Over time, the natural color of your teeth becomes darker due to these stains.
- Teeth whitening does not damage your teeth. Professional teeth whitening is incredibly safe. The whitening process uses active ingredients to lift stains. After each whitening session, your teeth naturally remineralize and rehydrate.
- The chemicals used for whitening can be toxic to the gums. That is why our dentist will apply a protective gel to isolate the gums, before starting the whitening process.
- Laser or Ultra-violet light teeth whitening is temporary. Ultra-violet (UV) light works by accelerating the whitening gel to act faster. Although it does whiten very quickly, it is not an option for people with sensitive teeth.
- Stains on teeth cannot be removed at once. Customers with severe stains must be patient with the process and know that each whitening session removes years of stains. Once those stains are gone, it is incredibly easy to maintain.
- There can be sensitivity after teeth whitening. It is completely normal for sensitivity to occur. Sensitivity will disappear 12-36 hours after whitening. We use a post-whitening fluoride treatment to nourish the teeth and promote rehydration.
